But have no fear, thanks to the geniuses at Legos, you an build your own robot for a very affordable price.The Mindstorms NXT is one of them. This Mindstorm comes equipped with more than you wouldbelieve.
The main part of the kit is the NXT itself (the controller). It's about the size of an iPod (though a bit thicker) with a loudspeaker, a monochrome LCD, and navigation keys on the front. The Mindstorm NXT is the brains of the robot.
The Mindstorm has four sensors (Touch, Light, Sound, and Ultrasonic ) which enable the robot to feel and react to the environment, react to sounds, detect light and color and also judge distance and react accordingly. The Mindstorms NTX coordinates all these things while servo motors make it move exactly where you (or it) wants to go. You can even download programs from the net and send them to this robotic marvel.
The Mindstorms NXT has three ports on top for connecting to the servo motors and four ports on the bottom for connecting to the four different sensors: . The combination of all of these things allows the Lego Mindstorms NXT to be built in any number of different combinations.
When you combine these sensors, motors and brains (NXT) with the myriad of lego bricks your child probably already has, the creation possibilities of robots, vehicles and what not will be endless
