Another marvelous idea from the famous Lego people - Mindstorm NXT.Now this is not your ordinary Lego. It is much more complex, sophisticated and will actually contribute to your child's development as it encourages imagination and promotes mental growth and ingenuity.
The Lego Mindstorms NXT is a robot waiting to be built. The main part of the kit is the NXT itself (the controller). It's about the size of an iPod (though a bit thicker) with a loudspeaker, a monochrome LCD, and navigation keys on the front. The NXT is the brains of the robot.
The Mindstorms NXT has three ports on top for connecting to the servo motors and four ports on the bottom for connecting to four different sensors: Touch, Light, Sound, and Ultrasonic . The combination of all of these allows the Lego Mindstorms to be built in any number of different combinations.
The sensors of the Mindstorm enable the robot to feel and react to the environment, react to sounds, detect light and color and also judge distance and react accordingly. The Mindstorms NXT coordinates all these things while servo motors make it move exactly where you (or it) wants to go. You can even download programs from the net and send them to this robotic marvel.
Legos would not be Legos if you didn't have all the big and little parts to build the things with either. And this surely has them. Combine all these things together and Mindstorms NXT becomes a fun robotic toy to keep you (or your child) occupied for days.
